1776 - 2026

Thirteen colonies signed a Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 and established a new nation. In 2026, our nation will commemorate this brave act and historic milestone. What was Westport doing in 1776? How might Westport mark and celebrate the Declaration of American  Independence?

   

To answer these questions WestportMA250 was formed. We are a small ad hoc group of Westport neighbors that have been meeting with teams and individuals in our town and with our neighboring towns to learn about our place in history, our legacy and plans for celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution.

    

Along the way, we have learned that when we bring forth these stories, we help build civic pride. When we promote civic events celebrating Westport’s history, it is everyone’s to celebrate. We hope all Westporters and friends, youth and visitors will join in this celebration throughout the year.
